Constipation and digestive discomfort are common in kids, accounting for half of pediatric care visits.1 A key factor? 95% of children do not consume the recommended amount of fiber.2 Fiber plays a critical role in digestion, gut health, and overall wellness - and between picky eating and busy schedules - most kids don’t get enough. We enlisted the help of Jordan Thaler, RD, RDN, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and expert in children’s nutrition, to understand when children should take a fiber supplement and the factors that actually matter when choosing one.
With Thaler’s guidance and hands-on testing from TCJ parents on staff, we evaluated the top three kids’ fiber supplements – Hiya Kids Daily Fiber+, Organifi Kids Easy Greens, and Begin Health Daily Growing Up Prebiotics. We’ll help you make an informed choice for your kids’ digestive health.
One clear winner stood out in terms of formulation, taste, and effectiveness. Read on and find out our top pick.
Should My Child Take a Fiber Supplement?
We asked Thaler whether most children could benefit from additional fiber in their diet. Her answer: in short, yes.
High-fiber foods - broccoli, brussels sprouts, lentils - are what children tend to avoid; that’s why meeting kids’ recommended fiber intake of 19-25g per day is a challenge.
“Constipation and GI discomfort are common in kids, usually due to low fiber intake,” Thaler says. “Fiber helps promote regular, comfortable bowel movements. It also supports immune health, feeds beneficial gut bacteria, helps maintain steady energy levels, and supports long-term metabolic and heart health.”

Choosing the Right Fiber Supplement
What should parents look for when choosing a kid’s fiber supplement? For Thaler, it’s a combination of formulation and taste to help support digestive health while still being appealing to kids:
- On what a fiber supplement should contain: “Look for fiber sources that are gentle and well tolerated. Supplements should include a mix of soluble and insoluble fibers. Soluble fiber feeds healthy gut bacteria, and helps stool stay soft and regular. Insoluble fiber adds bulk to stool and helps move digestion along.” Both are essential for digestive health.3
- On added sugar: “Added sugar can disrupt the gut microbiome and contribute to cavities.” Kids get enough added sugar in their diets; they don’t need any extra.
- On taste: “For a supplement to actually help, kids need to take it regularly. The taste and format should be something children enjoy.”
How do Hiya, Organifi, and Begin Health compare when it comes to ingredients, taste, and more? Let’s find out.

Green = Best, Yellow = Mid-pack, Red = Last
Ingredients: Hiya Wins with the Most Fiber from Diverse Sources and Zero Added Sugar
Fiber supplement ingredient lists can be confusing, often including unfamiliar fiber sources and sweeteners. But there’s one ingredient we always recommend avoiding in kids’ supplements: added sugar. Many brands add sugar to improve taste. According to pediatric dentists, sugars in gummies can stick to teeth, increasing the risk of cavities.4 Excess sugar may also disrupt the balance of gut bacteria and work against the digestive benefits fiber is meant to support.5

Hiya Kids Daily Fiber+ and Begin Health Growing Up Prebiotics stand out as the fiber supplements with zero added sugar or artificial sweeteners. Hiya’s fiber powder uses monk fruit for sweetness, and Begin Health is made with HMOs, which are naturally sweet complex sugars. Organifi contains 2g added sugar per serving from cane sugar and adds Stevia for extra sweetness.
Hiya also wins on fiber content and source. Hiya packs 6g of fiber per serving from a blend of soluble and insoluble fibers. It includes resistant vegetable fiber (an insoluble fiber) to help with regularity and add stool bulk, dragon fruit (a mixed fiber) to support gut bacteria & digestion, and inulin & psyllium husk (soluble prebiotic fibers) to feed beneficial gut microbes.
Begin Health & Organifi deliver less fiber from less diverse sources than Hiya. Begin Health has just 3g of fiber per serving from soluble fiber only (chicory root fiber). Organifi offers the lowest nutritional benefit with only 2g of fiber per serving – meaning it has as much fiber as it does sugar. Organifi primarily relies on soluble fibers (acacia powder) but includes some insoluble fibers (carrot & broccoli powders).
For us, the trade-off is simple. Hiya delivers 6g of fiber from a blend of prebiotic and plant-based fiber sources with 0g added sugar. Begin Health and Organifi offer less fiber from less diverse sources, and Organifi relies on added sugars and sweeteners.
Taste: It’s A Tie
Taste matters when it comes to kids’ supplements. The highest-fiber supplement can’t help if children won’t take it consistently.

In our taste test, Hiya Kids Daily Fiber+ tied with Begin Health for best taste. With an Island Punch flavor, Hiya is easy to mix with water and has a naturally sweet, fruity, and non-chalky taste. Our kid testers enthusiastically finished their glasses. Begin Health is mostly flavorless. The powder mixes into a tasteless, odorless drink, making it easy to mix with milk or other drinks for picky eaters. Our kids happily drank it when we mixed it with juice, but complained of a slight chalky flavor when mixed with cold water. With both Hiya and Begin Health, we felt better serving zero added sugar to our kids.

Organifi comes in last with a vegetable-y flavor. Our kid testers needed to be convinced to drink Organifi – off put by its dark green color. The taste is similar to apple juice, if apple juice tasted like spinach and sugar. Our kids could only drink half a glass at a time, and the added sugars made us less enthusiastic about serving Organifi.
Effectiveness: Hiya Wins with Improvement in Digestion
When choosing a fiber supplement, the most important question is simple: Which one actually works?
Thaler, our Dietitian, says when fiber is doing its job, “We typically see more regular and comfortable bowel movements.” That’s because “Fiber helps keep digestion moving and supports a healthy gut.”

To evaluate each brand’s effectiveness, our kids took each fiber supplement according to nutrition label instructions every day for two weeks. We noted any changes in digestion, comfort, and bathroom habits.
The results? Hiya Kids Daily Fiber+ wins with the most noticeable improvements in digestion – our kids had fewer complaints about stomach discomfort compared to when they weren’t taking any supplements.
Organifi and Begin Health seemed to make little to no noticeable difference in digestive comfort or regularity during their testing periods.
Price: Hiya Wins
For a daily supplement, value is important. Each brand’s serving size delivers varying amounts of fiber; we compared prices per gram of fiber.
Hiya Kids Daily Fiber+ is the most affordable at $0.32/g fiber with TCJ’s discount for a supplement from diverse fiber sources that actually made a difference in our kids’ digestion.
Begin Health is $0.48/g fiber for a chalky powder that uses a singular fiber source.
Organifi is the most expensive at $1.33/g fiber for a sugar-packed, low fiber supplement that our kids couldn’t finish.
The Overall Winner: Hiya
Which kids fiber supplement is actually best? After our hands-on testing and analysis, we recommend the supplement that delivers 6g of fiber per serving and contains a blend of proven prebiotic fibers for digestive health with zero added sugar. And that’s Hiya.

Thaler, our Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, agrees. “Hiya provides a balanced mix of fiber that supports both digestive regularity and gut health. It contains no added sugar and uses simple, transparent ingredients.”
